What is the Nokia Morph about?

Nokia Morph is a joint nanotechnology concept, developed by Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK). The Morph demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile devices into radically different shapes. It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.

This device concept showcases some revolutionary leaps in technology that will open up an entirely new spectrum of possibilities. Nanotechnology enables materials and components that are flexible, stretchable, transparent and remarkably strong. Fibril proteins are woven into a three dimensional mesh that reinforces thin elastic structures. Using the same principle behind spider silk, this elasticity enables the device to literally change shapes and configure itself to adapt to the task at hand.

A folded design would fit easily in a pocket and could lend itself ergonomically to being used as a traditional handset. An unfolded larger design could display more detailed information, and incorporate input devices such as keyboards and touch pads. Even integrated electronics, from interconnects to sensors, could share these flexible properties. Further, utilization of biodegradable materials might make production and recycling of devices easier and ecologically friendly.

• Self-Cleaning:

Nanotechnology also can be leveraged to create self-cleaning surfaces on mobile devices, ultimately reducing corrosion, wear and improving longevity. Nanostructured surfaces, such as “Nanoflowers” naturally repel water, dirt, and even fingerprints utilizing effects also seen in natural systems.

• Advanced Power Sources:

Elements of Morph might be available in the market to integrate into handheld devices within 7 years, though initially only at the high-end. However, nanotechnology may one day lead to low cost manufacturing solutions, and offers the possibility of integrating complex functionality at a low price.
Is Nokia working on more such phones/technology?
Nokia Research Center is working on technology up to seven years in the future and creating concepts that challenge conventional practices and spark new innovations.
What, in your opinion, would mobile phones look like in the future?
Nanotechnology is just one key future research area for NRC, but an important one that will give us the freedom to design materials by manipulating atoms and molecules at the nanometer level. It hence has the potential of being both evolutionary and revolutionary when applied to mobile technology. A few years from now, phones will have new and innovative features different to the ones that are widely used today.

    Nokia, please drop whatever you were doing and pay some attention to this cell phone design. It’s not an Apple aeon but it’s a Nokia Aeon Price e designed by Mac Finalized. Since it’s just a concept phone we don’t have any features available. All we know it would look and feel like aeon and it would have a nondescript tactile feedback technology with the surface adapting to various actions. That’s a phone right here I’d buy in a heartbeat. I’ll have to wait for it.

Nokia Aeon combines two touch-sensitive panels mounted on a fuel-cell power pack. Each of the panel is capable of being used independently. The touch screen displays all buttons that are virtual, so in one situation one panel could operate as the display, the other as the keypad. Nokia also establishes a new wireless standard with wibree, basically an upgraded blue-tooth which would allow theNOKIA 8900E to be a thin-client, farming out processing and storage. The complete phone is virtual and the panels can be used for voice calls/ sending messages and enjoying the musical experiance from any panels.

Nokia released pictures of the Aeon concept phone yesterday. Very light on detail, but they suggest such handsets could be common place in the next few years. The phone is very slim, and the whole of the front of the phone is touch screen, including the keypad. Showing up in the R & D section of its company’s website, the Nokia Aeon Concept Phone features a full touch screen surface that eliminates the use of the traditional keypad and brings its users a further step to futuristic technology.

Looking great with its extremely sleek and sexy look, Nokia should use some perfected material that doesn’t leave fingerprints on Aeon’s touch screen display to keep the Aeon looking ever glamorous. Besides, no one would want to spend half his or her time wiping it.

It uses liquid battery, speech recognition, flexible touch screen, touch sensitive body cover which lets it understand and adjust to the environment. It has a simple programmable body mechanism so that it changes forms in different situations.
*the functionality of design
You dont have to carry it in your pocket or on your wrist. You can carry it anywhere, in anyform. You can roll it, bend it, put on your clothes like a clip. It also makes some form changes that makes it more ergonomical: i.e. when you want to talk on the phone, the body form turns into the form of the good old telephone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best in the way that you have chosen. The functions that it has also create a feeling of electronical pet, as it senses your moves, understand what you want, respond you in the best way. It learns you, to fit you better.Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other 888 users. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way you can talk without words.

E-motions… It means electronical motions that 888 has. You can send and receive forms from / to friends. You can send a heart shape to your girlfriend, so her telephone turns into an icon of heart. Or you can send a dancing form to your friends to call them to the party tonight. This is the fun side of the product. If we look from the functionality side, 888 is quite flexible. You can put it into your pocket, roll it and make it smaller, or put on your wrist when you want to make a video call on the go. If you want to talk like a normal telephone, there you have your telephone shape. We go through a lot of places and situations in the daily life, so it seems like one form is not enough.
